Werewolves

A Human hybrid and an Alpha Were claw against the bonds of fate in the highly anticipated companion novel to the New York Times bestselling Bride.

Serena Paris is orphaned, pack-less, and one of a kind. Coming forward as the first Human-Were hybrid was supposed to heal a centuries-long rift between species. Instead, it made her a target, prey to the ruthless political machinations between Weres, Vampyres, and Humans. With her enemies closing in on her, she has only one option left—if he’ll have her.

As Alpha of the Northwest pack, Koen Alexander commands obedience. His authority is so absolute, only a fool would threaten his mate. It doesn’t matter if Serena doesn’t reciprocate his feelings, nothing will stop him from keeping her safe.

But power-hungry Vampyres and Weres are not the only threats chasing Serena. Sooner or later, her past is bound to catch up with her—and Koen might be the only thing standing between her and total annihilation…

Get a taste

If such a thing as an ideal night to die existed, it would not be this one.

There’s so much wrong with it. I could bitch about the recent rainstorm, the weak garlic-clove-sized moon, the uncharged phone sitting on my nightstand. The main issue, though, is that I’m wearing no more than two items of clothing: undies and a camisole. They were both perfectly adequate underneath my fluffy comforter. Unfortunately, I left that back at the cabin. When I woke up at one a.m. to the realization that someone was breaking in.

It’s fall. In a place that a year or so ago—back when I still foolishly believed I was Human—I would have called Oregon. Now that my Were genes are taking over, stuff like cartography and state lines have become comically trivial, but the crux of the matter remains: November in the Northwest is cold, and I’m not dressed appropriately.

Book notes

  • 🙋‍♀️ Why we chose

Explaining why we chose Mate feels almost redundant. I mean, it’s Ali Hazelwood, queen of romance! But there’s more to it: Hazelwood is hilarious, first of all, infusing her signature warm humor into everything she writes. And when it comes to paranormal romance, she’s the real deal—did you know she began her career writing smutty fanfiction on Archive of Our Own (and that The Love Hypothesis was originally a Rey x Kylo Ren fanfic!)? All of which is to say, there’s no one we’d trust more to write a rompy, spicy romance series about Weres, Vampyres, and Humans getting messy and falling in love.

With Bride (the first installation in the series, marking Hazelwood’s departure from her more traditional STEMinist romances), readers got a classic vampire x werewolf love story—an enemies-to-lovers where the “enemies” part runs so deep it’s literally biological. With Mate, we shift (excuse our pun) to a full-on Were romance—except that Serena is a Human-Were hybrid, which makes things a whole lot more complicated.

Spoiler alert—Mate absolutely lives up to the hype. It’s a grumpy-sunshine romance on steroids, with Serena as the tireless, radiant sweetheart and Koen as the kind of grumpy who’s more likely to rip someone’s head off than have a reasonable conversation. And not to make you blush, but this book is HOT. We’re talking Alpha energy + celibacy covenant + going onto heat hot. I mean, these characters are basically dogs—and we’re very much here for it!
